House cleaning is not entirely a
favorite hobby of everybody. As much as possible,
people avoid house hold chores, saying it’s a waste
of time and a headache. But not many understand the
meaning of a clean house – especially if one never
has the time to do it herself.
In order to get your family immersed
in cleaning, think of it as a game that everyone can
join in. Yes, this may be weird and not funny for
them, considering that cleaning is not actually
“fun”; but don’t be discouraged and give them
reasons why they should play the game with you.
Do some rounds within your home
first, and evaluate how messy it is. Make a note on
how a certain room looks like and suggest on how it
can be cleaned. After you have surveyed every corner
of the house, it’s time to gather around your family
members.
You’ll be anticipating those glares
from your family. But it’s okay. You don’t have to
be worried about that. Divide the task and chores on
each member and instruct how things go. If someone
objects or suggests another chore because he has
disability problems or he is allergic to dirt, then
be considerate. But do not make him feel like he is
exempted from the cleaning. Make him understand that
he should still help around even if he can do the
simplest tasks around the house.
If you want to spice things up a
little bit, tell everyone that after he or she is
done with their work, they will get their rewards.
It may be a gallon of ice cream, a treat to the
pizza place, or watch a movie with the family. Any
reward will be good as long as it involves family
time. Doing this will encourage them to finish their
chores because of the rewards. Remind them though
that you don’t accept a half-baked job. You will be
inspecting their work and tell them truthfully if
they did a good job or not.
While you divide each task, make sure
that each task is evenly distributed: the men around
the house can do the hard labor; lifting heavy
objects, carpentry work, appliance maintenance if
they know how to do it, or arrange things in the
storage room. Meanwhile, the girls can do the rest
such as sweeping and scrubbing the floors, ironing
clothes, clearing out the cluttered mess at the
floors, cleaning bathrooms, the kitchen, and among
others.
For the bedrooms though, it’s best if
the one sleeping on the room should clean it. This
is to ensure the personal space within your kids.
Children need to learn to be responsible in their
things, so they have to start being one by cleaning
first their bedrooms.
If you think that there are unwanted
object at home that you don’t use anymore such as a
broken TV or other things, transfer them in a
storage room or at the attic. The same goes for old
clothes. You may store it elsewhere or donate it to
charity.
Once everyone is done with their
work, you will be surprised with the changes. Once a
cluttered, messy house is now turned into an
organized home. Compliment each member of the family
for contributing to the home cleaning and make sure
that you give them the reward that they deserve. If
you make cleaning house a habit, then get used to
seeing a clean house every day.
